Elbair Hamburg airbus service centre

a new, modern service centre with outstanding and sustainable architecture (prasch buken partner) is being built on a 1.4-hectare area right by the main entrance to the airbus factory in finkenwerder, with its almost 16,000 employees.

in addition to the new airbus welcome centre for visitors and factory tours, the campus offers space for a variety of uses related to aviation and daily needs. a new meeting place is being created for airbus visitors, airbus employees, and all people in finkenwerder.

the building will meet the kfw 55 ee standard in line with the esg criteria – only fossil-free energy sources are used. no fossil fuels are used for heating and cooling the building, which has a gross floor area of more than 20,000 m²; instead, heat pumps are to make use of the earth and ambient air. the earth serves as an energy store, into which waste heat from cooling as well as heat from the environment is introduced in summer and withdrawn for heating in the winter.

the heat pumps are also operated with renewable electricity from a photovoltaic system, which generates hot water from its own solar thermal system, and the façade will consist of recyclable aluminium panels.

with the opening of the elbair in the summer of 2024, airbus, as well as hamburg itself and its tourism offering, will receive a venue that is one of a kind in germany in the aviation sector and which will attract many thousands of visitors and business partners every year.
